Today we started the day off very simply. We ate breakfast at our lodge and then we went on a long journey to La Selva biological station. This was also The topic of my individual presentation which I gave to the class on the bus ride over. After various stops of looking at food and going to the bathroom and even looking at Sloths we made it to la selva which means forest or jungle.
This section of Costa Rica is truly one of the most remarkable pieces of land in the whole country. It is a sanctioned off territory where all the animals and plant life that live there are free to roam without human intervention or interaction. Our tour guide gave us a history of the place as well descriptions. We even saw Pickerings!! A whole family of them. They are like lttile boats.IMG_0515
But by far the most exciting part of the day came when we went to another banana plantation. We met a man named Carlos and he was one of the most energetic and funny people we have met this whole time. He went over the history of bananas by showing us some great examples visually as well as a small tour of the facility including where they package and send the bananas. The reason this was the most fun part of the day is because of his charisma. I secretly thought to myself quotation mark as well as a small tour of the facility including where they package and send the bananas. The reason this was the most fun part of the day is because of his charisma. I secretly thought to myself “really? Another banana plantation?? Why??”
But boy was I wrong! I learned so much more than I already knew and in a more fun way I can definitely assure you that I will be buying Dole bananas in the future!!
We ended the day with a great dinner at the sueño azul lodge and by playing pool! Hope tomorrow is just as fun.
